This was a dinning room make over, the client’s had come to a stand still with the renovations and were living in a bare plastered room for almost 12 months. Underneath the well worn carpet was an original parquet floor, unfortunately where the existing hearth of the fire was located and removed it left a patch with no parquet blocks at all so it took some imagination to come up with a solution for this problem.

Matching old existing parquet blocks is no easy feat and after trying several reclamation yards it was a unanimous descision to cut out a central floor piece and install Italian slate and to then use the blocks removed from this area to fill the fire place hearth area, after a really good floor sanding and a sealing application the floor came up better than planned and really looked great.

A neutral colour was then used on the walls to lighten up the room, long curtains with a blue & brown wide stipe were used to make the room feel taller and to give a soft formality to the dinning room. The furniture was all existing, the dresser that was extremely over bearing in this room received its own make over by being reduced in height, the top was discarded and it left the room with a nice functional side board. Floating shelves were hung above the dresser to display ornaments and pictures now the dresser top was no longer, but as the shelves were white they did not make the room feel smaller or cluttered but decorative. Everything came together nicely providing the clients with a beautiful up to date dinning room they could enjoy and with the patio doors at the end of the room leading to the garden, the room came with a view to compliment.
